Being Well on Your Weigh
Dr. Yerby, Peoplesway
Science Advisor
It has been suggested that wherever
our mind goes our body will follow, so it is essential that our mind lead the
way to proper weight management.
Our weight loss program begins with understanding first why it is we want to
lose weight, and to decide if it is an important enough reason to devote time
to making it into an active project. Why a “project?” Because unless we do,
it will slide into our “never-gets-done” list.
First, try to understand what is driving this desire to lose weight. Did someone
tell us to? A doctor, friend, or spouse? Do you consider the extra pounds to
be a health hazard? Do we have clothes in our closet that don’t fit? Or, maybe
all of the above? There is a very real concept called “emotional weight,” whereby
we add those extra pounds as we unconsciously nibble ourselves into obesity
in order to fill an emotional hole created by the loss of a loved one, nervousness,
stress, or boredom. This kind of eating habit is akin to smoking, a bad habit
just needing to be broken. Make your unconscious habit conscious (and thus,
easier to break) and decide to repair your emotional damage in healthful ways.
For some people, this is all it takes. No use making a bad situation even worse
from habitual, unintentional eating. Deciding to lose weight for someone else
is not a strong enough reason to start a program. Without your own personal
involvement, commitment, and planning, nothing changes.
Once you have determined your motivation for losing weight, and have made the
decision for long term dedication to a program of simple changes, you are off
and running. Keep in mind that the number on the scale should not be the gauge
of your success. Some simple, yet continual, changes will lead you to both a
smaller number on the scale, and a smaller size.
The basic program has just three parts: eliminate sugar and sugary foods, add
more activity to slightly increase your normal heart rate, and add Pro-Trim
Rx for the extra help you may need to assure continual loss weight loss. It
goes without saying that staying focused and committed is part of the plan,
too.
Until we make up our mind that many of the foods that we have loved may not
love us, our efforts here will fail. When we begin to add up the sugar we consume
on a daily basis, or realize how we constantly are munching on junk food through
the day and night, we soon realize that a change is essential. Until we realize
that we must find time through the day to include some activity, we will continue
to pack on the pounds. Until we are ready to be healthy, we will continue to
need to make changes. So, understand now, that this is not only weight management,
but also optimal health training, and that this is not a temporary change, but
a change for life.
Consider finding a buddy or partner to support you in your changes, if necessary.
Joining us on the Peoplesway calls will certainly assist you in your efforts,
too. By working as a team or in partnership, it will be easier to make the right
decisions, stay focused, and have more fun.
Begin now by looking through your house, office, and car for foods that are
high in sugar and throw them out. Even with kids in the house, reduce these
foods as much as possible to avoid being tempted, and to keep the kids from
the perils of obesity, as well. When we eliminate sugar, we reduce our cravings,
protect our teeth from decay, have more energy, less digestive problems, and
less allergies just to name a few.
Remember that where the mind goes, the body will follow. It is just that simple.
When you get your mind set for success, buy the right foods, gather a support
system, begin to create time for exercise, and add Pro-Trim Rx…congratulations…you
are well on your weigh!
