Peoplesway Provides Nutrients for Sports Energy, Strength, and Fitness

We have often discussed the benefits of using botanicals in our Peoplesway formulas instead of solely one vitamin or mineral at a time. Plants, or phytochemicals, contain a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals; each formula, or plant, is unique in its health presentation and benefits.

For sports-minded enthusiasts and those physically active of all ages, we would especially want to emphasize the benefits for good body composition, energy, and physical performance using citrus aurantium, guarana, and Siberian ginseng in ProTrim, and Yerba Mate and B vitamins in Energy for Life. Phytomedicine (1999) reports the fat-burning properties of Yerba Mate without showing adverse effects on blood pressure or heart rate response.

Citrus aurantium stimulates the receptors on the surface of individual fat cells for weight loss. This stimulation directs the thyroid hormone to change from an inactive hormone state to an active state, which increases the Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). This functions to increase the metabolic rate without affecting heart rate or blood pressure. It burns fat, increases physical performance, and builds lean muscle mass. According to Obesity Reviews (Feb 2006) researchers at John Hopkins University, Baltimore MD, USA, describe the escalating trend towards obesity and the various dietary supplements that are being marketed, and state, " Citrus aurantium, which contains several compounds, has been suggested as a safe alternative." They say the evidence is promising for healthy weight loss benefits.

Heart support is a foundational goal in all products, as is evidenced in the taurine and magnesium in Energy for Life, the strong antioxidant property of grape seed extract in ProTec, and the citrus aurantium and ginseng in ProTrim. In a study printed in the medical journal, Life Science (November 2006) researchers at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, describe ginseng as a plant "used widely to improve cardiac health and circulation."

Certainly, joint health and pain management is helped with glucosamine, white willow bark, ginger, and wild Mexican yam and exercise 'recovery' is helped with the adrenal tonifying effects of ginseng, all phytonutrients found in Peoplesway products.

I have been fortunate to work with medical doctors who are interested in the natural sciences and curious about phytochemistry. Most doctors trained only in the conventional sciences, however, cannot 'translate' the language used in botanical medicine or even medical nutrition. However, we are seeing a growing interest within these circles and a movement toward integrative or 'complementary' medicine. This will, indeed, help support a positive gain for the improvement of people's health.

Until we are all on the same page, however, it is often a challenge to impress upon them the value of and presence of the scientific evidence supporting the positive biochemical changes that occur through the application of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes - those natural ingredients found in the Peoplesway products. This is just basic biochemistry, a science that naturopathic doctors live and breathe. We don't often feel that double blind studies are needed to support what the long-established biochemistry chart already provides, but it is often interesting to see though controlled studies, how the basic science is applied towards different human conditions to produce positive health results.
