Be Proud of Your Peoplesway
Supplement Program
By Christie C. Yerby,

There’s a skill to “going to the doctor” these days, and one that is easy to learn
and reaps great rewards. Understandably, our in-office one-on-one time with our
doctors can be limited by a variety of guidelines. One of the most important parts
of our visits, however, should include a brief conversation with them about your
supplements, as it should be just as important they document these as well as
your medications.
Integrative medicine is beginning to take hold across North America. More and
more medical doctors are understanding the value of good nutrition, healthy lifestyle,
and the power of botanical medicines, and are willing to engage in beneficial
conversations involving these supportive therapies.
Partnering with your healthcare practitioners on an equal basis is becoming common,
too. Mutual respect is the key, however. Appreciation for their time, as well
as their respect for your interests is important. If each does their part, a holistic
approach to health can be attained. Here are some ideas to assist in both areas.
Prepare for your visit to the doctor by making a list of your questions, and get
right to them without a lot of small talk. This will give your doctor a chance
to answer any questions you may have without running out of time. Take a notebook
and write the answers or any suggestions for your health he/she may have.
Just as important during this pre-visit preparation is to write a list of the
name of your supplements, but (more importantly) the what ingredients each product
contains and the dose you are taking. You can be very proud of your Peoplesway
products and their ingredients and not hesitate to present them to your doctor
as part of your beneficial health program. Remember, however, that conventional
medical doctors are not usually trained in nutritional and botanical medicine
and may not comment as enthusiastically in regard to your supplement program as
you’d hope. Keep in mind, it is not that they do not approve, for the most part;
it is, rather, they may not know the science behind the formulas as well as you
do. (This is where getting on the product information calls on Thursdays and reading
the articles on the website will help you.) Consider bringing with you to your
doctor’s visit your documented research to support the science of what you are
taking. This will lend to your position as an active participant in your own health
care and will offer education as well.
Feel confident in knowing that what is on the Peoplesway labels is a true description
of what you are taking. Unfortunately, some commonly used “one-a-day” products
list dyes, sugars, mineral oil, and other additives on the outside-boxed packaging
that people throw away. Consequently, the bottle they take in to their doctor
is not accurately representative of what they are actually ingesting. The FDA
allows only so many PPM (parts per million) of a toxic ingredient to be added
to any given product and thus the manufacturer must restrict its daily dose. How
can one assess how healthy a product is when those ingredients are not transferred
to the actual bottle for medical review? You are indeed lucky to be avoiding this
trap. Be very proud.
The ability to prepare for your visits and converse with your doctors on an equal
level, representing what you believe health to be for you, is a skill that requires
practice and preparation. Begin now to feel confident as you walk in to your doctor’s
visit being ready with written questions, a notebook in hand, and pride in knowing
all the science-based health benefits that your Peoplesway supplement programs
are providing you.
